Ambrotype of Julia McDiarmid

A quarter plate ambrotype of Julia McDiarmid (c.1782-1862) of Greenock in Scotland. She looks quite startled in the photograph and is holding a pair of glasses. She was born in Greenock and for forty years was the servant of Agnes Macfie (nee Galt) and her sugar refiner husband Robert Andrew Macfie. In 1841 she was living in Greenock with Agnes Macfie in Crawford Street and in 1851 they were at 7 Brougham Street. After Mrs. Macfie's death, Julia lived at 6 Boyd Street. She died in Greenock in 1862.
