The Misletoe Bough
A Christmas Annual Edited by Mary Elizabeth Braddon

A leather bound Misletoe Bough, containing Flower and Weed. The binding was commissioned by Braddon herself.

The Mistletoe Bough was a Christmas annual, edited by Braddon and she was active in the selection of manuscripts. The magazine was owned firstly by her husband John Maxwell and later was given to their son W.B. Maxwell for his twenty-first birthday. Most editions contained short stories, some of which were by Braddon and the rest was produced by anonymous contributors. W.B. Maxwell was keen to get good artists for the annual, but was inept at finding advertisers and the publication eventually faded away.

The first page of the 1884 Christmas edition of The Misletoe Bough.
